What is the difference between the ETA and the eVisitor Visa?
The difference between an eVisitor Visa and a tourist visa ETA is the eligibility requirements. Depending on the country of citizenship, applicants will have to apply either for an eVisitor Visa or for an ETA.
The eVisitor visa for Australia and the ETA share some similarities, like allowing the holder to visit Australia for up to 3 months for purposes of tourism or business.
How long is Australian eVisitor valid for?
The Australia eVisitor is valid for 12 months and allows multiple entries for stays up to 3 months with each entry.

If you hold more than one passport, you must declare this in your ETA application and provide details of your other passports.
If you hold an ETA eligible passport, but you are also an Australian citizen, you do not need to apply for an ETA. Australian citizens have an automatic right of entry and do not need a visa to enter Australia. See Travelling as a dual citizen.

To apply for an eVisitor visa online, applicants are required to be outside of Australia.

obey any condition and stay period attached to your visa
If you stay in Australia for long periods or make frequent visits to Australia, we may ask you about your travel purpose next time you enter Australia. If you are found not to be a genuine visitor, your ETA may be cancelled.

If you have a criminal conviction in any country, you should apply for a Visitor visa (subclass 600) and provide evidence about your criminal convictions.
If you are granted an ETA, but we find that you provided incorrect information, your ETA may be cancelled.
Have paid back debt to the Australian Government
If you or any family members (including those who don't apply for the visa with you) owe the Australian Government money, you or they must have paid it back or arranged to pay it back.
